What is galvanic iontophoresis facial?

Iontophoresis therapy is the therapeutic introduction of ions of soluble salts into tissues by means of electric current; a form of electro-osmosis; also, a process of increasing the penetration of drugs into surface tissues by the application of electric current.

Iontophoresis is also used for different medical conditions. These include:
 

• "sweat test" to diagnose cystic fibrosis.

• to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)  that does not respond to prescription antiperspirant treatment

• in physical therapy, to deliver drugs locally to musculoskeletal disorders such as tennis elbow

• to deliver drugs to treat localized skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis.

Precautions 

• Pregnant women, people with large metal implants, and people with implanted pacemakers should not have iontophoresis. The electric current used on the skin is very low and is not harmful.
